Every animal has a unique protective covering. Beginning with cave painters, artists have engineered rendering techniques to represent the diverse textures of animals. Students will observe an array of zoo animals with different types of fur patterns or body coverings. Students will practice art techniques to represent the animal of their choice in a variety of media.
June 30th- Scales and Shells 
Reptiles have scales and shells. These complex body coverings protect these cold blooded animals in many different environments. Students will study reptiles at the zoo. They will practice both sketching and contour drawing techniques. Students will complete their own image of a zoo reptile using both pencil and ink.

July 1st- Spots
Some animals have spots. Cheetahs, Fishing Cats, and Giraffes are a few spotted zoo animals. These spots act as camouflage for both predator and prey. Every animal's spots have individual characteristics. Students will observe a variety of spotted animals and paint an image of their favorite spotted zoo animals using tempera paint.

July 2nd- Stripes 
Other animals have stripes, like zebras, tigers and raccoons. The coats of stripped animals have their own specific patterns. Students will explore the zoo in search of every striped animal. They will practice acrylic painting techniques to create an image of their favorite animal with stripes.

July 3rd- Feathers
Bird feathers have many special properties. Some feathers keep birds dry. Others feathers help birds fly. Students will study bird anatomy and the ways birds use their feathers. They will observe live birds and biofacts. Students will look at techniques artists use to represent birds and feathers. They will create their own images of birds using ink and watercolor washes.

June 30th to July 3rd 4th of July Week Camps
Travel the world with Zoofari Camp 2008! Each day campers will "travel" to a new place in the world to learn about the animals that live there. Behind-the-scenes tours, crafts, games, animal demonstrations, and activities will all be included in this camp. Campers will also receive snacks, carousel and train rides. For students entering 4K through 3rd grade. 8:30 am-12:30 pm. We will be using books from the Adventures of Riley series for our world exploration. A great way to explore the world!

4K: Animal Explorers: Explore the zoo in search of animals from around the world! Each day campers will search for animals that live in different places around the world. They will then learn about what these animals eat, where they sleep and how they interact with other animals. Register today!
5K/1st: Animal Discoverers: Discover the variety of animals around the world at this zoo camp! Campers will travel the zoo in search for different habitats and the animals that live in them! Campers will learn about adaptations these animals have for surviving their habitat, what they eat, and how they interact with one another. Register today!
2nd/3rd: Animal Investigators: During this camp, campers will be investigating the zoo in search of the animals to add to their passport each day! Clues will be given throughout the day to lead campers to the correct animals. Campers will learn about the animals, where they live and features that help them survive during this camp.
